The Shoreline Model Yacht Club sails on the scheduled Saturday of each month, weather permitting.

Follow the signs into the park directing you to the Lakeside Cafe/Sailing Center. We sail at the south end of the lake, near the golf course, on the lawn next to the Lakeside Cafe.

Check the schedule below for dates and start times.

November 13,2010

The Day's Recap -  Sailing began today with the largest crowd of CR914 to visit Shoreline since our visitors from down south.  A total of eight boats took to the water. The first couple of races were limited to single lap around the course due to light winds.  Race three had Bill slip by on the wrong side of the start line three different times before getting on to the course, while Ron pulled down a bullet; his first in competition. The fleet was closely matched through out the day.

An early lunch was taken so as to allow the wind to fill in, as well as decide which direction it wanted to come from. After lunch the winds slowly increased thru the remaining seven races. At the completion of the racing a brief awards ceremony was held.  Bill was once again crowned skipper of the year, followed by Pip in second, and Cliff was in third.

It was agreed that the club had a very successful year with steady growth.  Maybe next year those few which have been missed will be able to return to the pond and give us even larger fleet sizes to race with.  Sailing will resume in March of 2011, with a possible practice sail and BBQ in February either at Bill's or where Pip berths his big boat.  More to follow later.

Race Organization:

  • There must be at least 3 boats competing in each heat and at least 5 heats for an official race day.
  • Each race will consist of 10 heats (or as many as weather permits up to 10). Heats 1 through 5 begin after the skippers meeting, and will be run back to back. (A minute or two between heats).
  • Each heat is scored with 1 throwout for the day.
  • After the 5th heat, there will be a 30min break for boat tuning, battery swapping, lunch, whatever.
  • After the break, heats 6 through 10 will run back to back.
* Throwout scores HIGHLIGHTED
The 1st throwout will be relfected after the July regatta, the 2nd  throwout will be deducted after the final race in November.

Pip adjusts backstay

Scoring is calculated as follows:
  • (A4.1) The boats finishing position in the heat shall be its score for that heat. 1st place=1 point, 2nd=2, 3rd=3 and so on. The score for the day shall be the total points a boat has scored for each heat.*
  • (A4.2) Boats not finishing a race (DNF), or not starting a race (DNS) shall be scored 1 plus the number of boats entered at the start of the day. A boat that did not come to the starting area shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats entered for the day, multiplied by the number of heats raced that day.*
  • Boats arriving late shall be counted as having been in attendance since the start of the day, but will be scored as DNS for each race missed.
  • (A8.1) If there is a tie between two or more boats in a series, each boat's heat scores shall be listed in order from best to worst, and at the first point where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favor of the boat with the best score.*
  • (A8.2) If a tie remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked by the finishing order in the last heat.*
*(Adapted from Racing Rules of Sailing, Appendix A)

TrophyClub Champion:

• The Club Champion will be determined by the total points accumulated in the member's 7 best races. (This will allow us to miss 2 races).
