“Painful” could be the only word that described the sailing
conditions for the October regatta. Overcast skies and dead calm frustrated
skippers who were eager to start racing. As the day progressed, conditions
gradually started to improve to the point that the heats were actually
competitive and exciting rather than merely being a function of luck.
Six skippers were able to make the starting gun and with a
few minor exceptions, the boats experienced no electrical or structural
problems. Bill Wright and Cliff Craig tied for first place with 18 points
apiece, proving once again that these guys are the ones to beat. In second
place was Steve Delva with 23 points including two first place finishes. Gary
Watson posted an impressive third place with 33 points and three second places.
Michael Soloman and newcomer Ron De Blasi finished fourth and fifth with 37 and
48 points respectively.
As can be seen from the posted results, it appears that we
are getting closer to our goal of improving the sailing skills of all our
members and making each race competitive. Hope everyone can join us for the
final regatta of the season on November 21st.
